perch is a puzzle game, not a data business. Here's everything it keeps and sends, in plain words.
the short version
- No ads, no tracking, no account.
- Your birds and progress stay on your phone and in your own iCloud.
- Community numbers use an anonymous summary of each puzzle, and you can turn them off.
- Nothing is ever sold or shared with anyone.
what stays on your phone
Your birds, puzzles, scores and settings are saved on your phone. If you're signed in to iCloud, a copy goes to your own iCloud account so your progress comes back on a new phone. Only you can see it; we can't.
community numbers
After a puzzle, perch can show how you did compared with everyone else, like “Only 38% solved it without hints.” To make those numbers, the app sends a short summary when a puzzle ends:
- which puzzle it was, and whether you solved it
- how many hints and mistakes, and how many times your hearts ran out
- how long it took
- any bird you found, and whether it was a foil
- the version of the app
The summary is tagged with a random ID made on your phone the first time you open perch, so each player counts once per puzzle. That ID isn't linked to your name, email, Apple Account or device, and our server doesn't keep IP addresses. Because nothing ties the ID to you, we have no way to tell which summaries are yours.
It's your choice. Turn off Settings › General › Share my results and nothing more is sent; anything still waiting to send is deleted from your phone. You'll still see the community numbers either way.
The stats server runs on Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare handles the connection itself to deliver each request; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Game Center
If you're signed in to Game Center, perch reports your bird count, trail progress and best scores to Apple's leaderboards and achievements, under your Game Center name. Apple handles that under its own privacy policy. You can sign out of Game Center in your phone's Settings.
purchases
Supporter purchases go through the App Store. Apple handles payment; perch only learns whether you're a supporter, never your payment details or who you are.
reminders
The daily reminder is a notification set up on your phone. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.
what perch never does
- show ads, or include advertising or analytics code
- track you across other apps or websites
- ask for your name, email, contacts, location or photos
- sell or share anything with anyone
children
perch is for everyone, and it doesn't collect personal information from anyone, children included.
